Smart personal protective equipment (PPE) promises higher levels of safety and comfort in the workplace through the use of enhanced materials or electronic components. However, there are obstacles that will need to be overcome if it is to be successfully implemented in Europe’s workplaces. A new discussion paper examines the opportunities opened up and the risks posed by these new technologies.
Although organisational measures and collective protection should be always prioritised, the use of PPE is becoming an intelligent support.
