This means that the society will play an integral role in the quality assurance of the Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) apprenticeship assessments.

The PWP apprenticeship training is delivered by a range of BPS-accredited training providers, and apprentices are all assessed through an end point assessment delivered by a third party.

The assessment process is overseen by OfQual, and the BPS will be the primary source of psychological expertise for ensuring that the assessments are valid and reliable, that they are appropriate to the standard, and that they accurately reflect the requirements of the role. This places us at the heart of ensuring the quality of new entrants to the workforce.

The application was extremely rigorous, examining the BPS’ commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as our experience in education, training, standards and assessment. We have developed strict measures to manage any conflicts of interest between the BPS as an accreditor and quality assurance body, and the separately formed BPS Assessment and Awards Ltd, which is registered to deliver end point assessments.

A detailed examination of our governance and procedures has satisfied IfATE that the BPS is well placed to lead in this area of workforce development.

The BPS has received confirmation that the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) has approved us for inclusion in its Employer Directory.
